Application descriptions

Dispensing high-viscosity glucose syrup from IBCs

Task:
Glucose syrup is to be transferred from IBC's into different batching tanks. The previous removal process using gravity-based outflow was very slow.  Using a Flux worm-drive pump speeds up transfer rate and optimises the customers' process.

Solution:
F560S Eccentric worm-drive pump
Spur gear drive motor
Hoses and accessories

Application description:
The high-viscosity worm-drive pump is ideal for this task, being portable, easy to clean and delivering smooth, pulsation-free flow. A spur gear motor is optimal because motor speed can be varied with respect to temperature and viscosity. The filling process has been shortened from 120 minutes with gravity outflow to 45 minutes using the Flux pump.

Metering juice concentrates

Task:
Juice concentrates are to be pumped and metered from lidded drums with in-liners into a batching tank.

Solution:
FP427 FOOD drum pump
F458-1 high power commutator motor
Hoses and accessories

Application description:
Drums had previously been tipped into the batching vessel by a forklift, or the IBCs were lifted and the products drained through the outlet tap by gravity. This not only led to frequent spillages and a high degree of waste, but was problematic for health & safety reasons. These issues were solved with the FP 427 sanitary seal-less drum pump. The juice concentrates can be metered out of the drums and IBCs with almost no waste. Filling with the FP 427 drum pump is fast and easy.

The user places the drum or the IBC alongside the batching tank, inserts the drum pump and switches it on. Metering is easily controlled using a butterfly valve at the end of the hose. Once the desired amount has been filled, the valve is closed and then the pump is switched off.

Filling tomato concentrate

Task:
Tomato concentrate is frequently used in the food industry, packed in conical drums with in-liners. The product is transferred into a wide variety of different containers or mixing tanks. FOOD/FDA certification is required.

Solution:
ViscoFlux Mobile S drum emptying system
F560S Eccentric worm-drive pump
Spur gear drive motor
Hoses and accessories

Application description:
The tomato concentrate is delivered on pallets of 4 drums. The VISCOFLUX mobile S can be moved up to the four-drum pallets, thanks to its flexible chassis adjustment, so that all 4 drums can be emptied in sequence without delay.

VISCOFLUX mobile S is a complete system consisting of a process device, a pump control unit with motor and an eccentric worm-drive pump – in this case the F 560 S FOOD – and a follower plate with process seal. The tomato concentrate is transferred in several steps:

Step 1. The pump unit is lowered with the battery-powered lift arm, until the follower plate rests on the surface of the paste.

Step 2. After the motor starts, the eccentric worm-drive pump begins to apply suction. The follower plate creates a seal with the drum. The negative pressure ensures that the follower plate always rests on the paste. The lift arm and drive are decoupled during the process by the automatic free-wheel mechanism.

The follower plate creates a hermetic seal, which remains even if the transfer process is interrupted. The flexibility of the process seal ensures it adapts to any drum beads or transport dents that may be present. Thus almost no paste remains on the drum wall or in-liner.

Step 3. When the drum is empty, the follower plate is detached from the bottom of the drum by compressed air and the pump unit is removed from the drum. The residual quantity remaining in the drum is less than 1%.

Step 4. Cleaning: The system has an IP rating of 66 and can therefore be cleaned easily with a high pressure water jet.

Mixing and pumping low viscosity oils in the food industry

Task:
Low viscosity oils are to be mixed and decanted from several IBCs.

Customer's requirements:
- FDA-compliant parts and materials for the food industry

Solution:
MINIFLUX pump
F416 compressed air motor F 416
Hose and accessories

Application description:
MINIFLUX was specially designed for direct connection to the bottom outlet of an IBC. It can therefore be used with IBCs that are inaccessible from the top, eg. when stacked.

In this scenario, the MINIFLUX will be fitted to the IBC with an adaptor with integrated 3-way valve.  The pump can be used to circulate liquid back into the IBC, to help the built-in agitator, or liquid can be transferred to a storage container after mixing. Both mixing and pumping can be carried out together of independently.

Transferring honey into jars for sale

Task:
High quality honey is to be dispensed from drums into different sized jars. Since the product is expensive to produce, any residue left in the drums must be kept to a minimum. Previously the drums were emptied by hand which was inefficient and unhygienic.

Solution:
ViscoFlux Mobile S drum emptying system
F560S Eccentric worm-drive pump
Spur gear motor
Hoses and accessories

Application description:
The drums are stored on pallets which our VISCOFLUX mobile S can access from all sides. Our F 560 S FOOD eccentric worm-drive pump is ideal transferring high viscosity, non-flowing honey. The follower plate, which hermetically seals the honey, cleanly skims the drum wall meaning residues of less than 1% are left behind in the drum.

Virtually no shear forces are applied to the honey during pumping, the filling process is very gentle. Entrainment of air is prevented meaning the honey remains free from bubbles. Many users report that the honey tastes even "creamier than before" as a result of being pumped.

Filling high-viscosity peanut butter

Task:
High-viscosity peanut butter requires transferring from 200 l drums into an existing pipeline system. The pipeline is approximately 5-metres long and takes the peanut butter directly to the processing plant or a supply container.

A simple, quick, cost-effective alternative to unhygienic manual transfer was sought, complete with FOOD certification.

Solution:
ViscoFlux drum emptying system
F560TR eccentric worm-drive pump
Spur gear drive motor
Hoses and accessories

Application description:
Our VISCOFLUX drum-emptying system is the perfect solution for this application. The VISCOFLUX is used to transfer high-viscosity, paste-like media that do not flow freely, such as peanut butter, smoothly and cost effectively.

The VISCOFLUX is attached to the drum using a clamping ring, so the system and the drum are secured. The follower plate, placed over the peanut butter, hermetically seals the drum wall with the sealing lip. When extracting the product, the resulting vacuum ensures that the follower plate is drawn down smoothly, wiping the drum wall clean and leaving behind less than 1% of the drum contents. This eliminates waste and the need for time-consuming manual removal of residue left in the drum.

Decanting liquid chocolate

Task:
Liquid chocolate needs decanting into a mixing tank. The pump needs to be quick and easy to disassemble for cleaning and also requires FOOD/FDA certification.

Solution:
F427S drum pump for hygienic applications
F458 totally sealed commutator motor
Hoses and accessories

Application description:
The F427 drum pump is the perfect choice for foodstuffs such as chocolate and for pumping from drums, IBCs and other containers.

The F427 can be fully disassembled for cleaning in a few simple steps using virtually no additional tools. All parts that come into contact with the liquid can be sterilised.

The pump is portable and light-weight, delivering high flow and pressure, meaning it easily pumps the liquid chocolate into the appropriate batching tank.

Transferring dough

Task:
A baking machine buffer tank requires filling with a fluffy dough. The customer wanted a mobile, easy to operate pump with appropriate FOOD certification.

Solution:
F560S eccentric worm-drive pump
Three-phase motor
Hose and accessories

Application description:
The F560S eccentric worm-drive pump is the perfect solution for moving troublesome high-viscosity media such as dough, jam or even chocolate.

The dough is produced in 200 kg batches and is conveyed to the baking machine in a drum on rollers. The pump with bearing flange and three-phase motor is inserted into the drum and the dough is pumped out.

Eccentric worm-drive pumps are suitable for mobile use, are easily dismantled for cleaning and are certified for food contact in accordance with EU Regulation 1935/2004 and FDA CFR 21. These pumps deliver pulsation-free transfer of high-viscosity media without creating high shear forces.  Using the F560S often means that heating the product to reduce viscosity is unnecessary.

Filling of salad dressing

Task:
Salad dressing needs to be pumped from a mixing container into a feed hopper. Previously this was done manually by lifting and tipping the container.

Customer's requirement:
- FOOD certificate
- Quick and easy to clean
- Portable

Solution:
F427S FOOD drum pump for hygienic applications
F457 commutator motor
Hoses and accessories

Application description:
The salad dressing is made from rapeseed oil and vinegar in an open mixing vessel of capacity of approx. 60 l.

Transfer of the product into the hopper, which is in an elevated position, is performed using the FLUX F427 pump.  The pump is controlled automatically by level controls. The product is then dispensed into 0.5 l retail packs by a dedicated pack filling machine.

To deliver repeatable, accurate pack filling, the liquid level in the hopper must be kept relatively constant.  A fully certified FOOD pump was vital to the customer, because their production is regularly subject to FIS inspection. For sanitary reasons, the pump will be dismantled and cleaned with superheated steam after each filling process.

F427 can be fully dismantled and cleaned in just a few simple steps without use of specialist tools.
